CPDM Course Requirements
Only three courses are required to complete the CPDM designation. All three courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better to earn the designation. Modules may be taken in traditional classroom format, or online.
- CPDM 1 - Essentials of Disability Management
- CPDM 2 - Disability Management - The Medical and Administrative Components
- CPDM 3 - Disability Management Implementation
What is CPDM?
CPDM is a professional designation in disability management developed by IEA and the Disability Management Employer Coalition Inc. (DMEC)

Suggested Prerequisites
General knowledge or exposure to Claims, risk or insurance management, financial and human resources, safety and loss control, the legal system, agent/broker services, the application of group health benefits and/or disability benefits and third party administration.
It is suggested that prospective students take one of the following prior to enrolling in CPDM
- CA 8 -Workers' Compensation Claims for Non-Technical Personnel
Continuing Education Requirement
Six hours of continuing education in workers’ compensation or disability management is required each year.

CPDM 1: Essentials of Disability Management
Description: This course provides an overview of disability management; identifies the components of a disabiity management program; preparation to implement a disability management program; defines medical and administrative case management; describes the monitoring and evaluation process and how to eliminate problems; employment practices and information and how to use it. Students are required to begin their studies with CPDM 1, as it establishes a foundation in terminology, concepts, and the components of a disability management program. Other CE Credit: 27 hours for California BRN. DOI CE: None. Students must begin their course of study with CPDM 1 and then progress through CPDM 2 and 3 respectively.

CPDM 2: Disability Management: The Medical & Administrative Components
Description: This newly updated course will provide current information on the aging workforce, behavioral health, presenteeism and disease management. The course concentrates on the intricacies of case management; provider networks; grievance procedures; provider reimbursement; determining coordination with the case manager and provider network, vendors and systems; achieving outcomes and data; identifying the players; strategic planning and program comparison. Students will be involved in a group project developing a formal return to work program Other CE Credit: 27 hours for California BRN. DOI CE: None. Students must have successfully completed CPDM 1 before taking CPDM 2.

CPDM 3: Disability Management Implementation
Description:This newly updated course involves a thorough review and discussion of the program designs; cost of disability study; partnering with providers; the disability management department structure and the processes as well as current statistics around absence, productivity and health management. This course concludes with a practical case study project. CPDM 3 should be the last course taken in the program as it builds on knowledge obtained in CPDM 1 and CPDM 2. Other CE Credit: 27 hours for California BRN DOI CE: None. Students must have successfully completed CPDM 1 and 2 before commencement of CPDM 3.
