What is INS?

Developed by the Insurance Institute of America, the INS program deals with principles of insurance, the provisions of some of the most widely used personal and commercial property and liability contracts as well as life and health policies, and the relationship between insurance theory and practice.

Who will benefit?

  • Persons in all technical insurance positions whose jobs require an understanding of insurance functions and contracts.
  • Insurance personnel who have some knowledge of insurance practices but who have not had formal study of the insurance principles that underlie those practices.

A Professional Certificate Program

Students who pass the three national exams earn the Certificate in General Insurance.

CPCU Waiver

Completion of the INS program waives CPCU 553 and 557

INS 21: Property And Liability Insurance Principles

Description: Topics include what insurance is, who provides insurance, how insurance is regulated, measuring the financial performance of insurers, marketing, underwriting, claims, insurance contracts, property loss exposures and policy provisions, liability loss exposures and policy provisions, and risk management. DOI CE: 32 CE hours for fire/casualty broker agents for instructor led courses Online course not approved for DOI CE credit. However, CE credit can be obtained by passing the National Exam through IIA, www.aicpcu.org

What you will learn

  • What insurance is, who provides it, and how it is regulated
  • How the financial performance of insurers is measured

Description:Topics include automobile insurance and society, personal auto policy, homeowners insurance, other residential insurance, other personal property and liability insurance, personal loss exposures and financial planning, life insurance, and health and disability insurance.
