Prerequisites

Completion of all five of IEA's Workers' Compensation Claims Administration Certificate courses with a grade of "C" or better.

NOTE: For those students who attended and passed CA13 in prior years, CA16A may be taken in place of CA16B to achieve the WCCP designation.

NOTE: Six hours of workers’ compensation claims continuing education will be required annually once designation is awarded.

CA 16B: Permanent Disability Rating and AMA Guide - Advanced

Description:This advanced course covers permanent disability rating of complex and non-scheduled disabilities. The methodology of rating permanent disabilities from impairments occurring after January 1, 2005 is taken from the AMA Guide, 5th edition. This course provides an overview of the fine points of rating including concepts, terms, and procedures. Also included are pain rating add-ons, bilateral, ambidextrous, MDT, overlapping and other multiple disabilities and review work on the utilization of information outside of the schedule, including administrative protocols for physicians, lawyers and other resources. This course is designed for experienced claims and legal personnel. Special emphasis is focused on use of actual medical reports. CA 17: Labor Code And Current Case Law

Description:This program involves a thorough review and discussion of all sections of the labor code applicable to workers' compensation laws in the State of California. Current case law will also be discussed in conjunction with questions of injury, AOE/COE, TD, PD, death benefits, S & W, 132A, and subrogation. Additional areas of the labor code relative to statutes, penalties, practices and procedures are also included. This course is of assistance in preparing for the State of California Self-Insurance Workers' Compensation Administrator's examination. CA 20: Advanced Issues In Workers' Compensation

Description:This program involves claims personnel in important subjects and issues that provide workers' compensation claims professionals with a broad understanding of how their activities affect the insurance business as a whole. Students will gain a basic understanding of the following core topics: macro workers' compensation issues, bad faith, employer bill of rights and civil litigation, underwriting techniques and issues, medical management, employment and labor law, and managing risk. Elective topics include some of the following: creative settlements, self-insured market, current issues, subrogation, trial techniques, workers' compensation alternatives, broker's perspective, and the applicant attorney's strategy/targets.
