Colorado Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Producers are required to complete 24 hrs of continuing education, including 3 hrs of ethics, every two years.

At least 18 hrs must be pertain to the producer's license types.

NFIP Flood Training: All Colorado resident property and casualty or personal lines producers who sell flood insurance are required to complete a one-time 3 hr NFIP flood training course.

LTC/P: All producers prior to selling long term care policies must complete 16 hrs of state approved LTC training. At least 8 hrs must consist of general LTC policies and 8 hrs must pertain to LTC partnership policies. Please note that at least 8 hrs must be in a classroom setting and the remaining 8 hrs can be taken as self study.

All producers are required to take 5 hrs of ongoing training regarding LTC policies every two years, thereafter. This training must be taken in a classroom setting.

Not permitted

Producers are not allowed to repeat a course within a compliance period.

Producers licensed to only write one or more of the following authorities:

• Travel Ticket Selling
• Bail Bonding
• Title
• Limited Lines Credit
• Crop Hail

Non-resident producers who have satisfied the continuing education requirements in his or her home state, will constitute satisfaction of Colorado's continuing education requirements provided the non-resident producer's home state recognizes the satisfaction of its continuing education requirements imposed on producers from Colorado on the same basis.

If the producer's home state is not reciprocal or does not require continuing education, the non-resident producer must meet Colorado's requirement by completing Colorado approved courses.
