Continuing Education Hours:
All producers are required to complete 24 hrs of continuing education, including 3 hrs of ethics every two years.
All resident Public Adjusters and Fraternal Producers must complete 12 hrs of continuing education including 3 hrs of ethics, every two years.
Additional Training Requirements:
LTC/P: Resident producers holding a health license and who solicit long term care policies must complete at least a 3 hr training course pertaining to Delaware long term care insurance. Since the Delaware Health Examination includes long term care knowledge, the long term care Continuing Education requirement does not need to be met prior to solicitation of the product. The requirement must be met during the biennium that the long term care policy was solicited.
NFIP Flood Training Course: All resident licensees who are authorized to write homeowner or personal line coverage must complete a 2 hr flood training course.
Course Subject Requirements:
Up to 5 hrs may be carried over to the next compliance period. Any excess ethics credits that are carried over will count as general credit.
Continuing Education Compliance Date:
February 28th, biennially. Resident producers renew every even year and non-residents renew every odd year.
License Renewal Date:
February 28th, biennially. Resident producers renew every even year and non-residents renew every odd year.
Exemptions:
The following license types are exempt from completing the continuing education requirement:
1) Limited Lines Producers who write consumer credit, title, crop/hail, surety and car rental insurance.
2) Resident Adjusters licensed solely for surety and/or marine and transportation.
3) Non-resident adjusters and non-resident public adjusters.
4) Limited lines producers licensed under 18 Del. C. ยง1707(b)(2) for life insurance or annuity products used solely to fund a pre-need arranged funeral program.
In addition, an individual continuously licensed for 25 years or longer prior to the start of a biennium reporting period or who holds a recognized professional designation shall receive an automatic credit of 12 continuing education credits in that compliance period.
The following professional designations shall receive credit as provided for in Section 8.3 of Regulation 504: AAI, CEBS, CHFC, CFP, CIC, CLU CPCU, FLMI, FSPA and RHU. Automatic credits may not be applied to satisfy ethics credit requirements.
Non-Resident Requirements:
The Regulation, as promulgated, exempts all non-residents from continuing education requirements. If the Home State does not require continuing education, the non-resident is still exempt under the Delaware amended Regulation 504.
