Steps to Renew Your Illinois Insurance License

Your state requirements can be found below or by accessing the Illinois Division of Insurance website. Click Here - Upon completion of our online courses you will be able to print your certificates online and we will report your credit hours directly to the Illinois Division of Insurance within ten business days.
- The Illinois Division of Insurance mails renewal notices approximately 45 days before your license expires. If you do not receive a renewal notice, contact the Licensing Unit at (217) 782-6366.
State Insurance Continuing Education Requirements
Continuing Education Hours
- 25 hours annually for first four years following original license issuance date, then 30 hours biannually thereafter.
- Bail agents must complete six hours annually in classroom instruction only.
- Those holding personal lines licenses must complete 20 hours.
State Continuing Education Requirements
Continuing Education Hours
Thirty (30) CE credit hours are required biennially to renew a license. Agents wishing to sell LTC must also complete a one-time six-hour state-specific LTC requirement prior to selling LTC products. The LTC requirement counts towards the completion of the basic continuing education requirement.
Continuing Education Compliance Date
Same as license renewal date, however it is recommended that CE be completed 4 weeks earlier so that the continuing education provider has time to report compliance.
License Renewal Date
License renewal date is the license issuance date biennially.
Types of courses accepted for CE Credit
Independent self study courses or classroom
Course Subject Requirements
Resident and nonresident agents who wish to sell LTC must complete a one time 6 hour LTC requirement prior to selling LTC products.
Carryover Requirements
A maximum of 15 credit hours may be carried over to the next reporting period.
Course Repetition
Credit will not be give for a course that is repeated within a 3 year period.
Final Exam
Final exam is not required to be monitored.
Exemptions
- Individuals with a temporary license
- Individuals with any of the following limited licenses: baggage, limited travel health, trip cancellation, industrial life or industrial health.

STUDENT EXPERIENCE:
- Student will pay and enroll in the course.
- No security validation is necessary.
- The student does not have to pass the lessons before moving on to the final. He or she can skip to the final.
- Illinois allows open book exams so the student can review the material from the previous lessons while taking the final.
- Student cannot take the final more than 3 times and each final that the student takes must be significantly different from the other.
