Steps to Renew Your Louisiana Insurance License

- Upon completion of our online courses you will be mailed your certificate and will report your credits to the Louisiana Department of Insurance within 15 days.
- The Louisiana Department of Insurance requires CE to be completed biennially by April 30th
State Insurance Continuing Education Requirements
Continuing Education Hours
- Life or Accident & Health and L/A/H =16 hours biennially; Property or Casualty and P&C =24 hours biennially; All lines L&H & P&C =32 hours; Personal lines-Property & Casualty-24 hours biennially
- Producers licensed for property, casualty and/or personal lines complete a one-time 3 hour course on flood insurance.
- Course subjects must be for lines of insurance in which license is held. Up to 50% of the required CE hours may be obtained through self-study. L/H and P/C combined licensees must complete 12 hours in L/H and 20 hours in P/C.
Continuing Education Compliance Date
April 30th every two years prior to license renewal (all lines)
Types of courses accepted for CE Credit
Independent self study courses or classroom (one-half of the total requirement may be satisfied through self-study).
Final Exam
Self-study final exams are not required to be monitored.
Course Subject Requirements
Course subjects must be for lines of insurance in which license is held.
LH/PC combined licensees must complete 12 hours in LH and 20 hours in PC courses.
Carryover Requirements
A maximum of 10 hours of classroom hours may be carried over to the next reporting period. Carryover of independent self-study hours is not permitted.
Exemptions:
- Newly licensed agents are exempt for the lst reporting period
- Individuals with a limited line license for which an exam is not required.
- Individuals who are licensed for industrial fire insurance only
- Individuals holding a limited license for one of the following lines: title , fidelity and surety, baggage, credit property, service or burial, travel health and accident, and industrial life, health and accident
- A licensee who is 65 years of age and had at least 15 years experience as a licensed agent, broker or solicitor and is either:
A. No longer active as an agent, broker or solicitor and is receiving Social Security benefits.
B.Is an active agent who represents or operates through a licensed Louisiana insurer - Nonresident agents may be exempt if licensee meets home state CE requirement.
