State Requirements

Continuing Education Hours
All producers must complete 21 hours of continuing education (CE) biennially.

Continuing Education Compliance Date
The compliance date is 45 days prior to license renewal. The renewal date is the last day of birth month, biennially.

License Renewal Date
The license renewal date is the last day of birth month, biennially.

Types of Courses Accepted for CE Credit

  • Independent self-study courses
  • Classroom study

Final Exam
Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested third party. You will be required to print the affidavit found on your “My Training” page within the course.

Course Subject Requirements

  • Courses must be approved for lines of insurance for which license is held.
  • Licensees must complete, in addition to the basic requirement, three hours in insurance-related Ethics.
  • Individuals licensed for crop only, fidelity and surety only, or title insurance only, must complete an additional three hours in insurance-related Ethics.
  • Effective August 1, 2008, for those who sell long-term care, eight hours of approved education is required initially and four hours of CE every two years thereafter.

Carryover Requirements
Excess CE credit hours may not be carried over to the next reporting period.

Course Repetition
Courses (including courses approved to meet the Ethics requirement) may not be taken for credit more than once in a two-year period.

Exemptions

  • Individuals who hold a limited lines license for credit life/credit accident and health, auto mechanical breakdown, prepaid legal, motor club, prepaid dental, health maintenance organization, or unemployment credit insurance. Individuals licensed less than two years at the time of the first CE compliance date are exempt for that first reporting period.
  • Nonresidents are exempt (please follow the rules for CE in the state in which you are licensed in).
