Steps to Renew Your New Jersey Insurance License

  • Upon completion of our online courses you will be able to print your certificates online and we will report your credit hours directly to the New Jersey Department of Insurance via Promissor within ten business days.
  • The New Jersey Department of Insurance requires CE to be completed by the last day of the producer's birth month biennially. For more information visit the New Jersey website (609-292-5316 x50552).

State Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing Education Hours

  • Licensed prior to 01/01/07
    48 hours every 4 years. 24 of these credits in authorities for which the producer is licensed and an additional six credits in approved courses related to insurance fraud, or professional ethics.
  • Licensed or renewed after 01/01/07:
    24 hours biennially, including 3 hours of ethics.

Continuing Education Compliance Date

Renewal date is based on license issuance date.

  • Licensed prior to 01/01/07:

    Oct-Dec 10/31
  • Licensed or renewed after 01/01/07:
    License will renew on the last day of the producers birth month every other year.

  • Self-study
  • Classroom study
  • On line courses

Course Subject Requirements

  • All course approved for CE in NJ may be taken for credit.
  • 3 Hours of Ethics.
  • For the first renewal occurring after 01/01/07, property producers selling flood must also complete a 3 hour training class on flood insurance and the NFIP.

Carryover Requirements

Carryover of excess CE credit hours is NOT allowed.

Final Exam

Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested third party.

Course Repetition

Credit will not be given for courses taken more than once in a four-year period.
