Continuing Education Hours
All resident producers are required to complete 24 hrs of continuing education including 3 hrs of ethics, every two years.
Course Subject Requirements
If you hold property and casualty authority and life, accident and health authority you must complete at least eight of the twenty-four required hours in courses related to each of these lines of authority plus three hours of Ethics.
Additional Subject Requirements
LTC/P:All producers who sell, solicit or negociate long term care policies must complete a one-time 8 hr training course followed by 4 hrs of ongoing training every two years, thereafter.
Carryover Requirements
NFIP Flood Training: All South Carolina producers who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time 3 hour course relating to National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training.
Final Exam Requirements
South Carolina Department of Insurance does no longer require producers to use a state approved proctor to proctor their continuing education courses. They may now use any disinterested third party. That third party may not be their employer or their relative.
Course Repetition
Producers are not allowed to repeat courses within a two year period.
Exemptions
1. Be age 55 or older and continuously licensed in South Carolina or other states for at least 20 years in the line(s) of authority sought.
2. Be age 60 or older and have been actively licensed in South Carolina or other states for at least 20 years in the line(s) of authority sought.
3. Be a resident SC licensed producer.
4. Apply in writing by December 31, 2009. South Carolina law allowing these exemptions has been repealed effective January 1, 2010.
Nonresidents Requirements
Nonresident producers are not required to send an original home state letter of certification, PDB printout or other hard copy documentation showing proof of good standing in their home state. Home state status verification will be done by Prometric using the NAIC Producer Database (PDB) once the required CE reporting fee is paid.
Continuing Education Compliance Date
May 1, even-numbered years
Effective 1/1/2011: Licensees will be required to complete their continuing education requirement by the last day of month of birth, odd/even years based on year of birth.
License Renewal Date
May 1,even-numbered years
Effective 1/1/2011: Licensees will be required to renew their license by the last day of month of birth, odd/even years based on year of birth.
