Steps to Renew Your South Dakota Insurance License

State Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing Education Hours

South Dakota regulation requires that all resident agents holding a Life/Health OR Property/Casualty license complete 10 CE hours to retain active license status. Life/Health AND Property/Casualty agents must complete 20 CE hours. 4 hours biennially for crop hail agents

Continuing Education Compliance Date

April 30th of even numbered years

  • Classroom study
  • On-line courses

Course Subject Requirements

Multi-line agents must complete a minimum of eight (8) credit hours in one line of authority

Carryover Requirements

Carryover of excess CE credit hours is NOT allowed

Final Exam

Self-study courses must have a completion exam.
