State Requirements

What is the CE requirement for each license type?
All licensees are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE), including three hours of Ethics.

When is the license renewal period?
License renews on the last day of the licensee’s birth month. Licenses issued in even-numbered years will renew in even-numbered years; licenses issued in odd-numbered years will renew in odd-numbered years.

Are Carryover Credits Allowed From One Renewal Period to the Next?
Carryover of CE credits is not allowed.

Is Course Repetition Allowed?
Course repetition within the same renewal period is not allowed; course repetition is allowed from one renewal period to the next.

Who is Exempt From Meeting CE Requirements?
Resident agents who hold an exclusive limited line insurance license for credit, legal expense, and title insurance are exempt from the CE requirements. Nonresident agents are not required to complete Wisconsin CE given that home state CE requirements are met.

What is the CE Completion Procedure?
Continuing education providers must submit course completion electronically to the state within 10 days following the date of completion.

What are the Course Subject Requirements?
All licensees who sell annuity products must complete four hours of a one-time approved annuity training by November 1, 2011 or before licensees sell, solicit, or market annuity products.

All licensees who sell, solicit, or market long-term care policies, must complete a one-time eight-hour initial training course, followed by four hours of ongoing training every two years, or license renewal period thereafter.

All licensees who sell flood products must complete three hours of National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) flood training.

What Fees are Associated with License Renewal?
There is a $35 biannual fee charge for resident license renewal.
